Norway is set to bolster its financial support for Palestine by providing an additional 125 million Norwegian kroner, equivalent to $13.2 million. This aid, facilitated through the United Nations and the World Bank, aims to support the Palestinian public sector amid ongoing difficulties in the region.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide highlighted the persistent need for international assistance due to the prolonged impact of the Gaza conflict, which has severely limited access to essential resources such as food, clean water, electricity, and healthcare in Palestine. Eide emphasized the importance of accelerating early recovery initiatives and enhancing humanitarian access.
In his statement, Eide urged the implementation of a 20-point peace plan that has been adopted by the UN Security Council. He also stressed the necessity for Palestinians to take a leading role in the reconstruction efforts of their communities.
Norway reaffirmed its stance against Israeli settlement activities in the West Bank, criticizing the expansion of settlements, settler attacks, and movement restrictions on Palestinians. These actions, according to Norway, contribute to increased insecurity and hinder efforts toward achieving a political solution.
This latest financial commitment is part of Norway’s broader support, which totals around 1 billion Norwegian kroner for Palestine this year, demonstrating Norway’s ongoing dedication to aiding the region amidst its challenges.
