Kyiv Attack Disrupts Local Economy as NATO Summit Approaches, Nine Fatalities Reported

In a devastating early morning attack, Russia unleashed a barrage of missiles and drones on Kyiv, leaving at least nine people dead and injuring 46 others, including five children, according to Ukrainian officials. The assault, which heavily impacted residential areas across the capital, has prompted ongoing rescue efforts, with authorities cautioning that the number of casualties could increase.

Emergency services reported significant damage to Kyiv’s infrastructure, with at least 15 apartment buildings either damaged or destroyed. Among the most affected areas was the Podilskyi district, where a nine-story residential building was struck, leaving many trapped beneath the debris as rescue teams worked tirelessly to save them. Additionally, another fatality was reported in the Bucha district, located northwest of Kyiv.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed this extensive operation, describing it as a “massive” strike that utilized long-range missiles and drones aimed at military, energy, and airfield targets in Kyiv and several other regions of Ukraine. This latest assault follows a recent attack that resulted in the deaths of at least 27 people in Kyiv, marking it as one of the most lethal incidents in the city this year.

As the conflict continues to escalate, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the ongoing battles in the Donetsk region, particularly around the strategic town of Kostyantynivka. Despite Russian claims of having captured the town, Zelenskyy refuted these assertions, affirming that fighting persists in the area.
