Donald Trump is taking a no-nonsense approach to global trade. The US president has announced the release of new trade and tariff letters on Wednesday morning, targeting at least seven nations, with more expected by the afternoon.
This move follows the rollout of 14 letters on Tuesday, each notifying countries of upcoming tariff hikes ranging between 25% and 40%. These new levies are part of Trump’s effort to reassert American leverage in trade agreements.
During a diplomatic dinner with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump revealed that deals have been successfully negotiated with both the United Kingdom and China. He added that the US is also close to a major trade agreement with India.
Although the tariff implementation deadline has been extended to August 1, Trump stressed this is a firm and final date. “All money will be due and payable,” he wrote, indicating that the US will begin collecting tariffs without delay.
