Musk Debuts “Grokipedia”: An AI-Driven Encyclopedia with a Conservative Lens

Elon Musk has officially launched Grokipedia, a new online encyclopedia that he positions as a rival to Wikipedia. Musk highlighted that the platform is “super important for civilization” and confirmed it would align more closely with his personal right-wing perspectives.
The new encyclopedia diverges sharply from Wikipedia’s model. Instead of relying on human volunteer authors and editors working in a transparent process, Grokipedia is generated and “fact-checked” entirely by Grok, Musk’s proprietary artificial intelligence chatbot.
The project’s origin traces back to a suggestion from David Sacks, who served as the Trump administration’s AI and cryptocurrency czar. This political connection underscores the platform’s ideological leanings, which Musk has openly embraced in his criticism of existing information sources.
Musk has frequently attacked Wikipedia for citing what he terms the “mainstream media,” including outlets like the New York Times and NPR. He has actively programmed X (formerly Twitter), which he owns, to prioritize conservative and far-right voices, and Grokipedia appears to be an extension of this strategy.
Early reviews of Grokipedia’s content show a clear adherence to conservative talking points. For instance, the entry on the January 6 Capitol insurrection references “widespread claims of voting irregularities”—a debunked lie used to challenge the 2020 election—and actively downplays Donald Trump’s role in inciting the riot. Journalists have also noted significant inaccuracies, such as a false claim that pornography exacerbated the AIDS epidemic.
